Control Switch Relay

The control switch relay is a microprocessor-controlled electrically operated switch designed for local and remote operation of industrial and utility power circuit breakers. This relay combines the traditional pistol-grip manual trip and close of a mechanical control switch with electronic actuation, supervisory logic, and status monitoring — consolidating what previously required multiple discrete relays and control circuits into a single panel-mounted device. This integration simplifies panel wiring, reduces the potential for wiring errors, and frees up valuable panel space. 

Standard operating voltages are 125 VDC and 48 VDC. Continuous contact rating is 30 amperes at 600 volts, with UL interrupt ratings of 25A at 120VAC, 15A at 240VAC, 6A at 600VAC, 3A at 125VDC, and 1A at 250VDC. Overload capacity handles 95A at 120VAC over 50 operations. A standard mechanical trip/close flag provides visual verification of the last commanded state, and a lighted front panel displays trip coil monitor status with SCADA output for remote annunciation. Left and right LEDs are typically wired to monitor 52A and 52B breaker auxiliary contacts, and a center LED serves as a trip coil health monitor.

This relay uses the standard mounting pattern shared with manual control switches, lock-out relays, and latching switch relays, making it a direct upgrade path for existing switchgear installations. Contact configurations include both break-before-make (non-shorting) and make-before-break (shorting) options, with a 45-degree clockwise-and-counter-clockwise spring-return angle of throw. Typical applications include substation control, utility switchgear, industrial power distribution panels, and any installation requiring both local and remote circuit breaker control with integrated status monitoring.
