Double-Pole Battery Disconnect Switch 500 Amp

The 601D-500 double-pole battery disconnect is a heavy-duty manual DC disconnect switch designed for high-current, high-voltage battery power isolation in transportation, marine, off-highway, and industrial applications. A DPST-N.O. (double-pole, single-throw, normally open) configuration isolates both battery leads simultaneously with a single 90-degree handle rotation, providing positive break of both positive and negative sides of the DC bus in a single action — critical for high-voltage systems where single-pole isolation is insufficient for safety.

Rated for 500 amps continuous per circuit at nominal 88 VDC, with an operating voltage range of 5 to 100 VDC, the disconnect handles the crank-load and inrush requirements of large starter motors, traction drives, and battery-management contactor circuits. Crank rating is 2,250 amps per circuit for 30 seconds maximum, and inrush rating is 3,000 amps for 1 second. Mechanical life exceeds 6,000 ON-OFF cycles. Minimum insulation resistance is 100 megohms, and dielectric withstand is 1,200 VAC. Copper terminals with 16 ft-lb main terminal torque provide low-resistance connections for high-current cable runs.

Environmentally sealed to IP67 for dust and water ingress protection, the housing uses glass-filled polyamide and PPS thermoplastics with UL94 V-0 flammability rating. Operating temperature range is -40 to +85 degrees Celsius, with storage tolerance from -40 to +105 degrees Celsius. Shock rating exceeds 6g at 11 milliseconds, and vibration exceeds 4g over 50 to 2,000 Hz. A lockable OFF position accepts standard lock-out/tag-out padlocks for maintenance safety compliance, and a spring-make positive-break contact design with no push-to-ON action prevents inadvertent energization.
