12VDC Load Monitoring Battery Disconnect Switch
Vehicle battery load monitoring disconnect with automatic overload protection, 500-amp continuous rating, and IP67 sealing for demanding mobile applications.
Our load monitoring disconnect protects vehicle battery systems from overload damage with automatic disconnect at fault current levels for mobile installations.
Overview
The Load Monitoring Disconnect is a self-protecting DC battery disconnect switch that automatically monitors current flow and disconnects the circuit when an overload condition is detected. Unlike passive disconnect switches that require manual operation for both connection and isolation, the load monitoring disconnect combines the manual isolation function of a battery disconnect with automatic thermal or current-sensing protection — safeguarding the battery, wiring, and connected loads from damage under fault conditions without requiring a separate fuse or circuit breaker.
Rated at 500 amps continuous for 12 VDC systems with an overload trip of 1,500 amps for 1 second, the disconnect handles typical vehicle main-power circuits including starter motor loads, high-current inverter feeds, winch and PTO circuits, and auxiliary equipment banks. Operating temperature range covers -40 degrees Celsius to +50 degrees Celsius (-40 to +122 degrees Fahrenheit). Dielectric withstanding voltage is 1,025 V for 1 minute, and voltage drop stays around 200 millivolts under normal operation. Shock resistance is 6g at 11 milliseconds saw-tooth, and vibration compliance is 4g over 10 Hz to 2,000 Hz per SAE J1455 Appendix A.
The IP67-sealed housing withstands water spray, dust, and typical automotive fluids, and the design tolerates the vibration and shock of mobile installations. Typical applications include commercial trucks, buses, off-highway vehicles, marine main power feeds, RV and van conversions, and any 12 VDC installation where combined manual isolation and automatic overload protection are required in a single compact device. Manual reset restores operation after an overload trip, providing straightforward field recovery without replacing consumable protection elements.
