Snap-Action Rotary Switch - Railroad
Snap-action rotary switches designed specifically for railroad applications with rugged construction meeting the demands of rail environments.
Our snap-action rotary switches deliver reliable multi-position control for demanding railroad applications.
Overview
Rail environments demand switch designs that withstand vibration, temperature extremes, exposure to weather and cleaning agents, and long service intervals between maintenance — requirements that exceed those of typical industrial rotary switches. The 345 Series meets these demands with heavy-duty construction, materials selection targeting rail service life, and contact designs optimized for reliability rather than convenience.
The snap-action mechanism uses spring-loaded contacts that break and remake independently of operator rotation speed, providing consistent contact-transfer time and extended service life under repeated switching. Multi-pole and multi-position configurations support complex switching arrangements in a single compact switch envelope — typical of the mode selectors, source transfers, and control-position switches used in locomotive cabs, passenger-car electrical panels, and wayside signaling equipment. Contact materials and construction are chosen to withstand the vibration and shock inherent in rail operation.
Typical applications include locomotive control-stand mode switches, HVAC controllers on passenger equipment, headlight and marker-light selectors, cab-signaling equipment interface switches, wayside interlocking control panels, and specialized railroad-industry test and measurement equipment. Standard mounting patterns and terminal options simplify integration into existing rail-industry panel layouts and support both original-equipment and replacement applications. The 345 Series is engineered for the extended service life and reliability that rail operators expect from primary control components.
